Step away from the downloads...

jenga_janeFirstly, THANK YOU JO for telling me about the groups.cache and accessories.cache thingy. I don't know how many times I have used that to get my game to start up. It is, obviously, SO MUCH EASIER than removing downloads and reloading backups and everything.
Second, I know I said I would have the next chapter up, but then I decided I needed to star chapter three with Puck going off to college, rather than just Mercedes, so I spent the day playing. I also realized that my method of using SimPE's backup manager for shooting scenes isn't going to work because it deletes the storytelling folder and so some of the pictures I took yesterday of my setup of Mercedes leaving for college didn't save. Oops. They weren't anything special or complicated, but it is annoying that I have to go in and retake those pictures.
Speaking of which, after trying to fool around with Gadwin I've decided to forget it and just use the in-game camera (for now). I still have it installed and might use it later on if the pictures bug me enough.
Also, I do have a new simself sitting around somewhere. I need to upload her so you can play with/torture her, but I'm not sure what the best way is to get her out sans-cc, or with cc that won't mess up your systems (custom skin and eyes rather than genetized so townies won't spawn with a skin or eye colour that doesn't match your game). Same with Rachel, Mercedes and Puck. If you still have the old Jane, you can keep her, but I personally needed a new me, if that makes sense.
Now for some babble about CC:
So a while back, when I was playing a family I didn't plan on loving as much as I did, the guy got abducted and so I decided I needed to come up with a multi pt hack. I didn't find one I liked so I made my own, played with it for a bit but today I decided I wanted a nicer set (I thought my own was inconsistent. I found another one by widget97s I liked and downloaded it, both versions because I can't decide whether or not I want the CC ones (I have sans-CC in my downloads folder, atm). Also, it;s not like I plan on getting any of the Gleeks abducted any time soon. Puck, gotta love him, rolled popularity with a secondary of romance. I actually like Romance and Pleasure sims almost as much as popularity sims. Family, knowledge and fortune can get boring. I don't agree with the lifestyle Romance sims live one single bit, but geez they're a ton of fun to play.
So I was playing Puck on a date with some downtownie (I think it was one of the Tricous) on a community lot and the game randomly crashed. Since it saves whenever you leave your lot I wasn't too concerned (though this was the first time the game crashed on this computer and I am wondering what the cause was). Because I couldn't be bothered to load the game just yet, I ended up at MTS2 and found a very yummy looking chocolate cat. Yes, I said a chocolate cat. Which made me want to look for more custom cats. So I downloaded like, twenty and added Hopelessly to my fave creators, plus downloaded default replacements for animal eyes. Go me! :P So I opened up the game, and got the Family a new cat (a mate for Soul) named Cadbury. When I added Cadbury to the household he and Soul automatically had a daily relationship of 27 and 32. Before Soul could be like her mother and attack her intended mate, I had them breed pretty much immediately. The two kitties were born and named Lindor and Hershey. Are you craving chocolate yet? ;)
Then I played Mercedes through a semester of college before iTunes decided to update automatically and the game crashed and closed (again, on a date on a community lot. :P) so I went 'screw it' and found myself at GOS, a community I never paid any attention to until I discovered Pooklet's hairs which led me to pooklet's skins on the advent calendar. I am still using dicreasy's skins (and eyes) as my defaults, but I also have the gentized pooklet skins in my game (Rachel and Puck both have those, while Amin and Mercedes are S4). So I've been lurking at GOS and today I found a whole swatch of colourful skintones that I really need to find an excuse to use. :P I know that probably isn't everyone's taste, and really, I would like the Gleeks to remain as realistic as possible. So yah, basically I need to stop downloading things now. I have nearly 14,000 files and 3.3 GB in my downloads folder and I haven't had this computer for two months yet. The compressorizer is my new best friend.
The only problem I have now is Meshes. While I'm super-disorganized in real life, my downloads folder (and my entire computer, actually) is very systematic. Except that I know I have duplicate meshes floating around everywhere, especially from sites like All-About-Style and Parsimonious that include meshes in every file. Going through and finding those is going to be a huge chore that I am not looking forward to, so I am putting it off. If anyone knows of an easy way of doing that, please let me know!
Anyways, I don't really have much else to say and I can't be bothered to fuss with photobucket or tinypic or what-have-you to post picspam (not much stuff to post, anyways) so I'm just going to sign off. We're going to a funeral tomorrow - my Grandma's friend's cousin's - said friend of Grandma's doesn't want to go alone and my Grandparents did know him so they're giving her a ride. I've never met him, but it's south of the border, which means Cracker Barrel for dinner, plus possibly maybe a new Webkinz (I think I still have some American cash somewhere) so it's a horrible reason to be going but as far as Grandpa's concerned, it's better than sitting around on my butt playing a game that, he just found out, contains 'sexual themes'. :P So I need to go to bed because I need to get up before noon.
